Sapphire Radeon Graphics card not working?
X1600 Pro 512MB, DDR2, 8x AGP, DVI, TV out, retail card with ASROCK motherboard S775 VIA PT880 Ultra ATX A L and Processor - 1 x Intel Pentium 4 541 / 3.2 GHz ( 800 MHz ) - LGA775 Socket - L2 1 MB - Box
Nexus Breeze case with 500w supply
When it is switched on the monitor just has a load of picturesque gunk. This has also happened when the graphics card is placed in another computer. When anotrher graphics card is plugged in all works fine.
The retailer has tested the card and found no faults so will not refund or replace. They say I must check my configuration. The system is being put together by a computer expert (I bought the bits and OK'd them with him first)and he says the card is not working.
Any experience of this or advice anyone?
Have you definitely got the additional power cable connected to the graphics card? There will be problems if there isn't. Perhaps you could describe the 'pituresque gunk'? If it resembles a proper picture that's messed up, perhaps the card is overheating. If it doesn't, most likely the card is busted.
Take it back to the place you got it from again, and ask for proof that its working. If you can see it working in their machine, then there's something wrong with the configuration of your machine. If not, demand your money back or a replacement. They'll probably tell you it's your fault, but try to convince them that it was like that when you got it.

CRASHES on BOIS?
hi, i had this pc for 4/8 weeks now. i ham having this problems past 3 weeks.
1st i was using it and left it on for 1 hour, when i come back the pc crashed. i re-started but the moniter would not come on. i restarted 3/4 time it come on i tryed re=install windows xp. but half way trough the whole pc re-starts. so i restarted to go to the bios setting as soon as i go the the bois setting it crashes and the moniter freese on bois screen.
i do know about build and maintain a pc, but this has tested me to the bring of changing the motherboard to a different company.
SPEC:
Motherboard: ALIVENF6G-DVI (ASRock)
BOIS Version 2.10
CPU: Dual Core 2.8GB
Graphics: Buildin Nvidia Geforce 256MG
Ram: 4GB DDR2
HDD: Sata HDD 320GB
DVD-RW
19" Wide Screen
Can you Help Me??
Also If i don't go to the bios continue to start windows. it only says NTLDDR ( The HDD has Windows XP already)
hi mate
basically mate, the message NTLDR you are getting indicates that the p.c cannot find a bootable source to boot from,i.e windows
this can be for many reasons,a damaged or corrupted boot ini file or something as simple as a floppy disk left in the floppy drive
however i dont like th sound of the bios crashing,or the computer crashing while in bios, this indicates a more serious problem
however the first job i want you to do is replace the cmos battery, this is a small cell like battery that remembers all the bios settings and changes,if this starts to fail then bios starts to throw up crazy errors such as incorrect cpu clock speeds and wrong memory latencys, just basically the bios goes mad.change this by simply prizing out the old cmos battery and then clip in the new one
next you need to do a complete p.c valet, this involves cleaning all fans and tidying up cables, use compressed air in a can(aerosol) for cleaning fans(and heatsinks) and use cable ties to tidy up all cables and leads, apart from tidying the cables and leads up this also helps air flow through the p.c,s case, which helps the p.c,s performance
once you have finished the clean up and valet, then its time for the fun part
go into bios and make sure the 1st bootable device is the cd rom, then press "save and exit set up" then p.c will restart, and you will see a message "press any key to boot from cd/dvd"
windows will begin to load,..note:you mentioned in your question about windows restarting, this is normal as windows will re-start several times during installation so dont turn off your p.c
also the message "press any key to boot from cd/dvd"will appear after every restart, only press any key on the first occasion,DO NOT press any key after each other restart or this will restart the windows xp installation process
during set up you will be asked for some details, this includes 1)windows xp product key..find this on the p.c s case or on the disk case
2)time/date/zone settings 3)telephone settings(for dial up)
when windows has finished installing you will then need to install the appropriate drivers,if you need assistance with this let me know
if when windows has installed you continue to suffer crashes with your p.c then check all the hardware is correctly fitted and all connections are secure(ide, power, leads, sata)
also go to the screensaver and turn this off, screensaver are a resource hog and use too much memory
try this and let me know if you need any furshter assistance
good luck mate !
