dell xps 1730, better for gaming than todays consoles?
Im planning to buy a dell xps 1730, basicly i need a new computer and i want sumthin that handles the latest games, (id customise it with the 1gb graphics and extreme processer) Would this be better for gaming over say a ps3 or 360? I'm moving to a different country in like 3 months too so if i got the dell xps id be able to take it with me, but if i bought the ps3 or 360 i dont think it will work in the country im going so id need to sell it. dell xps 1730 or a console?
( How long (years) do you think a dell xps 1730 with 2.8 extreme processer and 1gb geforce 8800 gtx with sli would be able to still handle the latest games??

New PC custom Build i7quad , extreme gaming pc
thinking of changing to linux in the future?
i have always used vista but i know that linux is actually programmable so i would like to change to that. can someone tell me the main differences?
some of the main things i would like to know is if you have a recent game (all seem to require vista) is there an easy way to play it on linux?
is comparing vista to linux the same as comparing internet explorer to firefox? (in the sense of basically the same but firefox has useful addons)
what are the good benefits of running linux over vista?
do you need to know an extreme amount about computer programming to be able to customize linux?
are there many viruses out there for linux?
oh and i just found out that there are different versions of linux... which is best?
also say i had a laptop with all the built in webcam and speakers etc. would you be able to install all of those on linux..?
oh and what type of addons could you get with linux?

my computer always makes a loud beeping noise does anyone know why?
this happens usually when the computer is on standby. If i put it on max. power settings it does not do it that often, but does it none the less.Well this might sound funny but the noise is in one pitch and sounds like peeeeeeeeee.... The light next to the on button on the cpu flashes on and off when the noise starts. I have to switch the main power off before the noise stops.. because if i put off the cpu it does not respond. After i put the main power supply on and put on the CPU it says "resuming windows" as though it never went off. i have opened the cpu only once and that is to install my graphic card 8800gtx xxx edition of gforce. Please could anyone provide any kind of assistance? I would be really greatfull. thanx in advance. system specs: CPU core 2 duo 6.14 MHz. , 2 GB ram,320GB HDD, external HDD 500 GB, 650W fan, asus motherboard, VISTA Home premium edition, Gforce gtx 8800 xxx, 22" hd ready monitor.
it sounds to me like the computer is idling and the cpu fan slows down and its trying to tell you hay not cool my CPU fan is really low on the RPMs i need to tell you before i melt well thats probably whats its thinking you can tell it not to in the BIOS settings. if your GPU is an XFX force they have had a tendency to draw more power in stand by causing the fans to slow down. I personally would never install a XFX force graphics card in my computer there tech support is the worst iv ever talked to its bad to the point i will never user there parts in any of my company's computer builds.

the basic use of these laptop is to able to open up various programs in one time whilst available to play games such as gta 4 and the upcoming mafia 2
The second one. Nvidia in general makes better graphics cards, and the i5 processor is quad core, whereas the Core 2 Duo is dual core. So basically the i5 can run four threads at the same time, and the core 2 can process two.
Also, the i5 has an integrated memory handler and the Core 2 relies on the motherboard chipset for this.

Best laptop for a musician, but i would prefer not to get a Mac. What would be the best? Sony, Alienware, Hp?
I do not want to get a Mac because they are not good about fixing your laptop if anything goes wrong (several friends have had issues with them), and seeing as i will be in college and not able to afford fixing a laptop, i want to get something worth my money. I can spend up to $2000, but i want to make sure that aside from being good at music editing, production, etc. this laptop company must be great about fixing the computer if anything goes wrong and good customer service is a must. What would be the best laptop for me?
Well, not Alienware, unless your a hardcore gamer (ftw)
I would go with a HP or a Gateway. But if you can, and if you wanna lug around a computer, you can (if you have one) ask your friend to build one for about 800 bucks, and its way better than a laptop.

Celerons had a bad reputation for being the severely castrated Pentiums. BUT everything has changed with the new Celerons (Dothan, Yonah, Millville, Conroe L). They are cheap but FAST and nice overclockers too. They are now real bangers for the buck.
The M520 is more than enough for CIV-3. Current integrated graphics would do fine with that game.

what is best gaming notebook for $1250? I have insprion 1720?

That's great for the price... I don't think you'll beat that for under $1250. Unfortunately most notebooks don't offer much better than Geforce 8600 video, and those which do are awfully expensive. Everex and Asus have the lowest-cost laptops I've found with decent video adapters for gaming.
CyberpowerPC is another good source for gaming machines, both desktop and laptop.
Alienware is good quality but overpriced, a comparable build from other manufacturers almost always costs much less.
